Carbohydrate Chemistry Simulator

Interactive carbohydrate chemistry simulator: watch monosaccharides link into a growing chain through condensation, releasing water at each glycosidic bond, and compare how alpha and beta linkages fold into starch-like helices versus cellulose-like straight fibers.

Carbohydrate chemistry studies how monosaccharides such as glucose combine into disaccharides and polysaccharides through glycosidic bonds. This simulator visualizes that condensation reaction directly: watch glucose units join the growing chain one at a time, each new bond releasing a water molecule, and compare how an α1→4 linkage coils the chain into a starch-like helix while a β1→4 linkage keeps it as a straight, cellulose-like ribbon. Adjust chain length, formation speed and helix twist to see how the same monomer produces very different macromolecular structures depending on bond geometry.
