Desert Tortoise Water Memory Lab (2D)
A 2D physiology simulation of the real desert tortoise water-budget: an oversized bladder stores water as a survival reserve that drains with heat and drought, refilled only by traveling to fixed rain-fed rock basins the tortoise must recall from spatial memory rather than find by chance.
This 2D companion models the desert tortoise's water budget as an explicit resource loop instead of a scripted forage animation: a bladder reserve drains with drought and metabolic demand, and can only be refilled at one of a handful of fixed rock basins that fill after rain and dry out again over the following day or two. Whether a tortoise reaches water in time depends on its own spatial memory of which basins have paid off before — a genuinely noisy estimate that gets corrected the moment a remembered basin turns out dry — rather than on omniscient pathfinding to a randomly regenerating resource.
