This 2D counterpart to the 3D crop-weed field simulator swaps the empirical Cousens hyperbola for a mechanistic, spatially-resolved light-competition model: a 48×48 grid of soil cells each grow their own crop and weed leaf-area index over the season, split the day's incoming light by a height-weighted overtopping rule, and accumulate biomass through a radiation-use-efficiency growth law. Weeds are distributed in realistic patches rather than uniformly, so the field-mean yield loss you see is the average of many locally-different micro-competitions — not a single formula evaluated once. Adjust weed density, emergence timing, crop density and control effort to watch the canopy map race unfold cell by cell.
