A crewed spacecraft or station cannot simply vent its air and resupply — every kilogram launched costs thousands of dollars, so real Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) try to close the loop: capture the CO2 a crew exhales, react it with hydrogen in a Sabatier reactor to make water, and electrolyze that water back into breathable oxygen. This simulator models that chain as a live mass balance — crew metabolism driving CO2 up and O2 down, a tunable scrubber pulling CO2 out of the cabin air, and a tunable recovery fraction deciding how much of that captured carbon actually comes back as oxygen versus being lost as vented methane. Switch between open-loop and closed-loop operation, change the crew size, and watch cabin air quality and resupply mass respond exactly as they would on a real mission.
