🚇 Engineering Underground Transit Hubs
An interactive 3D cutaway of a deep multimodal transit hub: adjust station depth, peak passenger load, egress cores and emergency ventilation to see evacuation time and airflow respond.
A cutaway 3D model of a deep multimodal transit hub — street concourse, mezzanine, metro platform and a freight bore stacked below — where station depth, passenger load, egress design and emergency ventilation all trade off against each other.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Evacuation time is driven by both vertical travel distance and stair/escalator queueing capacity, while smoke-control ventilation must scale sharply upward the moment an emergency is declared.
🎮 How to Use
Set station depth and peak passenger load, choose one or two egress cores, then flip on emergency smoke-extraction mode and watch the evacuation time, airflow and animated pedestrian flow all respond live.
💡 Did You Know?
Adding a second independent egress core can cut platform evacuation time nearly in half — which is why deep, high-traffic interchange stations are almost never built with a single stairwell.
