EndoWrist Kinematics — Cable-Driven Surgical Robot Wrist
Interactive 3D model of a cable-driven surgical-robot wrist (EndoWrist-style): drive pitch, yaw, roll and jaw grip and watch the forward-kinematics chain place the instrument tip, with a live dexterity-cone comparison against a rigid straight instrument.
Robotic surgery's biggest mechanical advantage over straight laparoscopic tools isn't the arm — it's the wrist. This simulation models the cable-driven pitch-yaw-roll-grip wrist mechanism (in the style of Intuitive's EndoWrist) as a real forward-kinematics chain: joint angles you set with the sliders drive rotation matrices that place the jaw tip in 3D space, while a capstan-pulley relation converts each joint angle into the cable travel that would actually produce it inside the instrument shaft. A live dexterity readout compares the wrist's reachable tip-deflection cone against a rigid, non-wristed instrument, which is mechanically stuck at zero deflection.
