UFO-Report Database Benford's-Law Audit

Forensic accountants and data-integrity auditors use Benford's Law — the observation that genuine, scale-spanning numeric datasets have a predictable, logarithmically-skewed leading-digit distribution — to screen large record sets for fabrication without ever inspecting a single entry by hand. This simulator applies that exact technique to a simulated database of UFO-report reference numbers and timestamps: it draws records from a mix of a true Benford-compliant generator and a uniform "fabricated" generator, then measures how far the resulting leading-digit histogram strays from the theoretical curve using a chi-squared goodness-of-fit test. Raise the fabricated-record fraction to see the histogram flatten toward uniform and the χ² statistic climb past the standard fraud-detection threshold.
