Life-Support FMEA Reliability Chain

Model a spacecraft life-support system as an FMEA reliability chain: tune each component's failure rate, switch a component between a single point of failure and a redundant parallel path, and watch computed system reliability and mission risk evolve over mission duration.

A spacecraft's life-support system is only as strong as its reliability chain: an O₂ generator, a CO₂ scrubber and a power bus, each with its own constant failure rate, wired one after another so the mission depends on all three surviving. This simulator computes exactly that with the standard exponential reliability model used in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA): each component's probability of still working after a given mission duration is R(t) = e−λt, chained components multiply their reliabilities together, and a component can be switched into a redundant parallel pair to remove it as a single point of failure. Tune each failure rate, flip the CO₂ scrubber between single-path and redundant, and stretch the mission duration to see how system reliability and mission risk respond — and which component is currently the weakest link.
