Interactive 3D tug-of-war simulator of the Ringelmann effect: watch per-person pulling force shrink as group size grows from motivational (social loafing) and coordination losses, with live force readouts.
A row of figures pulls a shared rope against a fixed anchor, and their combined force decides how far the anchor is dragged before friction and a return spring settle it in place. As the group size grows, this simulator applies two independently tunable, empirically documented losses — the mechanical coordination loss Ringelmann himself measured, and the motivational social-loafing loss identified in later research separating "I can't coordinate" from "I don't have to try as hard" — and animates each puller leaning back and glowing in proportion to their own individual share of the group's output, so the gap between the naively expected linear force and the real total is visible both as numbers and as body language.
