Hotel Delivery Robot: A* Routing (2D Map View)

2D top-down companion to the 3D hotel delivery robot: watch the same A* grid pathfinding, elevator-scheduled floor changes and greedy nearest-neighbor route optimization play out on a plan-view map of both floors, with drag-to-pan, scroll-to-zoom and a live battery-drain readout.

This is the 2D companion to the 3D hotel delivery robot simulator, redrawing the identical routing problem as a top-down plan of both hotel floors instead of a rendered 3D scene. A room-service robot has to reach a handful of guest rooms scattered across two floors, and the two costs it juggles are physical distance and elevator wait time. This simulator grids out each floor as a graph, finds every walking route with A* search (Manhattan-heuristic, provably shortest on a 4-connected grid — checked here against a brute-force breadth-first search on the exact floor layout), and sequences the day's deliveries with a greedy nearest-neighbor heuristic that treats an elevator ride as a fixed extra cost — the same trade-off real hotel and hospital delivery robots (Savioke Relay, Aethon TUG) solve every shift. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom the two-floor plan view, toggle route optimization off to watch an unsorted delivery order burn extra battery and time hopping needlessly between floors, and watch the battery gauge drain with real walking and waiting costs until the robot needs to redock.
