Kick Planet Physics Simulator (2D)

2D top-down orbital-mechanics lab: kick a planet with an adjustable impulse and direction and watch symplectic (velocity-Verlet) gravity integration turn a circular orbit into an ellipse, an escape trajectory, or a collision with the star.

This 2D companion drives the same restricted two-body gravity used by the 3D version through a plain top-down canvas view built for reading the orbital mechanics rather than orbiting a rendered scene: a side panel exposes the kick impulse, its direction relative to the current velocity, and a time-scale control, while a live readout reports speed, distance from the star, eccentricity, and a plain-language trajectory label. A velocity-Verlet integrator keeps the simulation's energy stable over long runs, so the ellipse, escape hyperbola, or stellar collision that results from a kick is the real consequence of the physics, not a scripted animation — the trail traces the planet's actual path so the orbit's new shape is visible as it forms.
