Firework Shockwave: The Sound Delay (2D)
Top-down 2D map of a firework's sound wavefront racing outward at the real speed of sound while wind advects it downwind — click to place the burst and watch the delay = distance/v_sound play out.
A simplified top-down radar view of the same real phenomenon: a firework's light reaches you instantly while its sound rides a wavefront that genuinely expands at the real speed of sound. Unlike the 3D version, this map ignores burst altitude and instead models wind advection exactly — a quadratic solve each frame for the moment the wind-carried wavefront circle reaches the observer, so a tailwind measurably shortens the delay and a headwind lengthens it. Click anywhere on the map to relocate and launch the firework, drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, adjust temperature, humidity and wind, and try clicking "I heard it!" the instant you think the boom should arrive to see how close your seconds-count estimate gets to the real distance.
