Impasto Relief Drawing: 3D Ink & Gravity

Draw on a 3D easel where every stroke is extruded into a real relief ribbon — orbit around it, then watch gravity and viscosity make wet paint sag before it dries.

The 2D original for this pairing describes "manipulating forces like gravity and friction to create realistic-looking drawings" — a promise its flat canvas never actually implements. This 3D companion builds that mechanic for real: paint on a freely orbit-able easel where each stroke is a genuine extruded 3D ribbon, bulging off the surface by an amount tied to how slowly you drag (more pressure, more relief), then integrates a simple gravity-and-viscosity model on the still-wet paint so heavier, low-viscosity strokes visibly sag and drip down the canvas before drying and freezing in place. Switch between Draw mode (mouse/touch drag paints) and Orbit mode (drag rotates the camera, scroll zooms) to inspect the relief from any angle — something no flat 2D sketchpad can show.

⚙ Under the hood

Each stroke samples a chain of 3D points along the canvas plane, offsets them outward by a pressure-scaled height, and builds a Catmull-Rom tube through them. Wet strokes integrate a downward velocity each frame (gravity slider) damped by a viscosity/friction factor, then freeze once dry.
