Polar Aurora Magnetosphere Simulator (2D)

A side-on Canvas 2D cross-section of the same magnetosphere model as the 3D scene: solar-wind speed compresses the day-side field, stretches the magnetotail, moves the auroral ovals, and sets the Kp geomagnetic index — all through the same formulas, seen edge-on instead of in 3D.

This 2D companion draws the same magnetosphere model as the 3D scene from a side-on cross-section: solar-wind speed sets a compression factor that flattens the day-side field loops, stretches the night-side magnetotail, and drives the Kp geomagnetic index and auroral-oval latitude through the identical formulas the 3D version uses, while streaming particles visibly deflect around a bow shock in front of Earth.

⚙ Under the hood

Canvas 2D magnetosphere cross-section with solar-wind-driven field compression, Kp index and auroral-oval latitude formulas, a deflecting bow shock, and adjustable wind speed, dipole tilt and particle density.
