Snow Globe Settling Simulator (2D)

Interactive 2D snow globe: shake to fling particles into the viscous liquid, then watch them settle at their Stokes-drag terminal velocity — tune particle size, liquid viscosity and particle count.

This 2D simulator recreates the classic snow-globe cross-section: a glass dome full of viscous liquid holding hundreds of tiny suspended flakes. Press "Shake globe" to fling every flake into motion with a random velocity, then watch them settle back down under gravity and Stokes drag — each flake's individual size sets its own terminal velocity, so larger, denser flakes sink noticeably faster than fine glitter. Raise the liquid viscosity to slow the whole snowfall to a lazy drift, or lower it for a quick clear-out, and adjust the particle count to see how a denser flurry looks. The live readout tracks how many flakes are still falling, how much time has elapsed since the last shake, and an estimate of the total settle time based on the slowest flake in the mix.

⚙ Under the hood

Shake a 2D snow globe cross-section and watch each flake settle through the viscous liquid at its own Stokes-drag terminal velocity.
