Nuclear Chain Reaction Simulator (2D)

Interactive 2D nuclear chain-reaction simulator: individual neutrons fly through a disc of fuel atoms, splitting nuclei and releasing new neutrons — watch fuel density and the multiplication factor k tip the pile between subcritical, critical and supercritical.

This 2D top-down simulator tracks individual neutrons as they fly through a disc of fuel nuclei: each fission releases new neutrons that either strike another nucleus and multiply the reaction, or escape the edge of the pile and are lost. Raise the fuel density to shrink the average distance a neutron travels before it hits something, or raise the multiplication factor k to release more neutrons per fission, and watch the live fission rate tip the pile from subcritical decay through a steady critical state into a supercritical, runaway cascade.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down neutron-transport model of a nuclear chain reaction: individual neutrons fly through a disc of fuel nuclei, splitting them and releasing new neutrons that either multiply the reaction or leak out at the pile's edge. Fuel density and multiplication factor k drive live subcritical / critical / supercritical behavior.
