🪸 Coral Reef Trophic Collapse: Coral–Algae–Grazer Dynamics (2D)

2D coral-reef ecosystem lab: a coupled coral / macroalgae / herbivore-fish ODE system (Mumby-style coral-algal-grazer model) plus a temperature-driven bleaching mortality term, showing a reef flip from coral-dominated to algae-dominated as thermal stress and grazing pressure change.

This 2D companion to the 3D coral-reef scene swaps decorative reef scenery for the real ecosystem-level mathematics that actually governs a reef's fate: a coupled coral / macroalgae / herbivore-fish ODE system in the style of the documented Mumby coral–algal–grazer model, driven by a temperature-dependent bleaching-mortality term. Five sliders — initial coral cover, initial fish population, grazing rate, algae growth rate and thermal stress — feed directly into the equations, and a live reef cross-section plus cover/population time-series charts show the reef tip from a coral-dominated to an algae-dominated state as bleaching outpaces grazing.
