3D Plasmon Field & Binding Dynamics
Explore surface plasmon resonance in a 3D scene with a glowing plasmon field shell around a gold nanoparticle, as analyte molecules bind according to the Langmuir isotherm. Controls: orbit camera, adjust concentration and rates.
This is the 3D companion to the site's SPR spectrum-shift simulator, built around the same physical mechanism but visualized as a scene rather than a spectrum. Target analyte molecules diffuse through solution and dock onto a gold nanoparticle's functionalized surface, each binding event nudging the population's surface coverage θ — integrated live from the real Langmuir isotherm dθ/dt = kon·C·(1−θ) − koff·θ, never sampled or faked. Rather than plotting a reflectance dip, this version renders the localized plasmon field itself as a translucent glowing shell around the nanoparticle, whose radius, brightness and color respond directly to θ: watch it swell and warm from blue-white toward amber as coverage rises, and dim back down once you switch to Wash and dissociation takes over. The same Δλ resonance-shift number the spectrum version plots is shown live in the readout, so both views trace the identical binding physics from two different angles.
