Kidney Filtration Cross-Section (2D)

Interactive 2D cross-section of a nephron: drive blood pressure through the glomerulus and watch filtration, reabsorption and secretion set the glomerular filtration rate and urine output in real time.

This 2D companion simulator draws a single nephron in cross-section — glomerulus, Bowman's capsule, proximal tubule, loop of Henle, distal tubule and collecting duct — and drives it with a real physiological control: mean arterial pressure at the afferent arteriole. Raise or lower blood pressure to watch glomerular capillary pressure, and with it the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), shift in real time, then toggle renal autoregulation to see how the afferent arteriole normally holds GFR steady across a wide pressure range by constricting when pressure rises and dilating when it falls. Live readouts track GFR, filtration fraction and urine output as filtered fluid is reabsorbed along the tubule and finally concentrated into urine.

⚙ Under the hood

Interactive 2D cross-section of a nephron where adjustable blood pressure drives glomerular filtration, reabsorption and secretion, with live GFR and urine-output readouts.
