Mitral Valve Prolapse & Regurgitant Jet

Interactive 3D model of a prolapsing posterior mitral leaflet: control prolapse severity, annular dilation and chordal rupture, and watch the coaptation gap open and the regurgitant jet stream back into the left atrium in real time.

This simulator renders the mitral valve as a real closing mechanism — an anterior and a posterior leaflet hinged to an annular ring between the left atrium and left ventricle — and lets you dial in the pathology that turns a competent valve into a leaking one. Increase posterior leaflet prolapse and watch its free edge billow above the annular plane during systole, opening a coaptation gap that a red jet of instanced particles streams back through into the atrium. Annular dilation widens that same gap without any prolapse at all (the mechanism behind functional MR), heart rate sets how fast the leaflets cycle between diastolic opening and systolic closure, and a chordal‑rupture toggle turns the billow into a fully flail, oscillating segment. Live readouts derive a coaptation gap, an effective regurgitant orifice area in the spirit of the clinical PISA method, and a regurgitant fraction from the geometry you create.
