When a defibrillator fires, it doesn't just "shock the heart" — it drives a current through the entire thoracic cavity, and only a fraction of that current actually crosses the myocardium at a strong enough gradient to depolarize it and interrupt fibrillation. This simulator models the chest as a homogeneous volume conductor and computes the real electric field from two point current sources (anode and cathode) using quasi-static bioelectric field theory, letting you compare anterolateral (sternum–apex) and anteroposterior (front–back) pad placement, dial in delivered energy and transthoracic impedance, and watch the resulting field vectors, peak current, and the field strength actually reaching the heart — checked against the ~5 V/cm clinical defibrillation threshold.
