2D Molybdenum Flotation

Interactive 2D canvas simulator of froth flotation: watch collector reagent make molybdenite particles hydrophobic, air bubbles collide and attach to them on the way up, and a depressant selectively suppress gangue pickup — with live recovery and concentrate-grade readouts revealing the classic grade/recovery tradeoff.

Froth flotation separates valuable molybdenite from waste rock by exploiting a surface chemistry difference, not a size or density difference. This 2D canvas simulator models that mechanism directly: a collector reagent coats mineral surfaces to make them hydrophobic, air bubbles rising through the pulp collide with free particles, and each collision resolves into an attachment or a miss according to a real probability that depends on how much collector is dosed and on the particle's own chemistry. Molybdenite attaches readily even at modest collector dosage; gangue attaches too once enough collector is present, which is exactly why real plants dose a selective depressant — a reagent pulse that strips collector off gangue for a few seconds and briefly suppresses its attachment odds without touching the molybdenite. Attached particles ride their bubble up into the froth layer and are skimmed into the concentrate, while some unattached gangue is still mechanically entrained in the froth regardless of chemistry. Watch the live recovery and concentrate-grade readouts move in opposite directions as you push collector dosage up — the classic grade/recovery tradeoff every flotation circuit operator has to balance.

⚙ Under the hood

A 2D froth-flotation cell where collector reagent makes molybdenite particles hydrophobic, rising air bubbles collide and attach to them with a real probability, and a depressant pulse selectively suppresses gangue pickup — watch live recovery and concentrate-grade readouts trade off against each other.
