🔮 Crystal Growth: Diffusion-Limited Aggregation (2D)
2D diffusion-limited-aggregation model of mineral crystal growth: wandering particles stick to a seed cluster on contact, and sticking probability alone tips the pattern from a dense faceted mass to an open dendritic branch — the mechanism behind amethyst geodes, frost and electrodeposits.
This 2D companion trades the 3D version's fixed decorative amethyst cluster for the actual growth process behind it: a diffusion-limited-aggregation (DLA) simulation where particles random-walk outward from a spawn ring and freeze onto a seed cluster the instant they touch it. Four real controls — supersaturation, diffusion temperature, sticking probability and nucleation-seed count — let you watch the same mechanism that governs frost, metal electrodeposits and mineral geodes tip a growing crystal from a dense faceted mass toward an open dendritic branch, with a live readout of attached atoms, cluster radius and growth rate.
2D diffusion-limited-aggregation lab: random-walking particles attach to a seed cluster on contact, with supersaturation, temperature and sticking probability controlling growth rate and morphology (faceted vs. dendritic).
