Soil Water Infiltration: Green–Ampt Wetting Front (2D)
2D Green-Ampt infiltration lab: choose a soil texture, rainfall intensity and starting moisture, then watch the wetting front descend and the infiltration rate decay toward Ksat as ponding sets in.
This 2D companion replaces the 3D version's generic slider dashboard with the real Green–Ampt infiltration model: pick a soil texture (sand, silt loam, loam or clay — each carrying its own saturated hydraulic conductivity and wetting-front suction head), set a rainfall intensity and starting moisture, then watch a cross-section of the soil column fill from the surface downward. The wetting front descends at a rate set by cumulative infiltration, a live chart tracks the infiltration capacity decaying toward the soil's saturated conductivity as rainfall continues, and once the rain outpaces what the soil can absorb a ponded layer visibly builds on the surface — exactly when the Green–Ampt equation predicts it should.
2D Green-Ampt soil infiltration lab with four soil textures, live wetting-front depth, infiltration-capacity decay curve and surface ponding once rainfall exceeds soil capacity.
