Iceberg Buoyancy Simulator (2D)

Interactive 2D side-view iceberg buoyancy simulator: adjust iceberg size, shape and ice density and watch it settle in the water at the real Archimedes' principle waterline, with live submerged-fraction, mass and displaced-volume readouts.

This 2D side-view simulator draws a jagged iceberg cross-section floating in open water and settles it at its true Archimedes equilibrium: the submerged fraction always equals ice density divided by water density, computed live by clipping the actual polygon at a trial waterline rather than assuming a simple cube. Drag the size slider to scale the berg, the shape slider to go from a blocky tabular block to a jagged peaked one, tweak the ice density to model different glacial ice, and switch between fresh water and salt water to see the waterline shift — with live readouts for submerged percentage, exposed tip, mass and displaced water volume.

⚙ Under the hood

Adjust an iceberg's size, shape and ice density in this 2D side-view simulator and watch it settle at the true Archimedes equilibrium waterline, with live submerged-fraction, mass and displaced-water readouts.
