🧪 Candle: 2D Flame Flicker & Wax Burn Simulation
2D companion to Candle: a heat-of-combustion formula converts flame heat output into a wax mass-loss rate, driving how fast the candle burns down, while Wind, Burn rate and Draft controls change the flame's temperature and stability.
This 2D companion replaces the 3D original's purely decorative flame shader with an actual combustion calculation: a typical candle's radiant heat output (~80W) divided by paraffin's heat of combustion (~42kJ/g) gives a real mass-loss rate, which — combined with wax density and the candle's cross-sectional area — determines exactly how fast the candle burns down in height. Wind and ambient draft cool the flame's displayed temperature and can blow it out entirely, after which a heavier smoke plume rises from the smouldering wick until it's relit.
2D Canvas flame driven by a heat-of-combustion formula (heat output / heat of combustion → mass-loss rate → height decrease), plus a wind/draft-based temperature and extinguish model and a lightweight smoke-particle system.
