🎯 2D Savings Goal Planner — When Will You Reach It?
Canvas 2D savings-goal tracker: set a goal, starting balance, monthly contribution and expected annual return, and watch the exact month a future-value curve crosses your goal line.
What It Demonstrates
This 2D companion drives the same future-value-with-contributions model as the 3D original: FV(t) = P·(1+r)^t + PMT·(((1+r)^t − 1)/r), stepped monthly across a 50-year horizon to find the exact month your balance first meets a target. Instead of a WebGL scene, the chart is drawn directly on a plain Canvas 2D context — lighter to render and identical in the numbers it reports.
How to Use
- Drag the Savings goal slider to set your target, from £1,000 up to £500,000.
- Set Starting savings and Monthly contribution to describe your actual plan.
- Adjust Annual return % to see how a higher expected return shortens — or a lower one lengthens — the time to goal.
- Try the four presets — House Deposit, Emergency Fund, Slow & Steady, Aggressive Saver — to compare realistic scenarios instantly.
Did You Know?
Because compounding is exponential, the last few years before a goal typically add more than the first several years combined — a plan that looks slow at year two can look nearly finished by year eight. Doubling the monthly contribution usually cuts the time to goal by far more than half, especially when the starting balance is small.
A Canvas 2D future-value tracker: FV(t) = P·(1+r)^t + PMT·(((1+r)^t − 1)/r), evaluated monthly across a 50-year horizon to find the exact month a savings plan crosses its goal, with a live pulsing marker at the crossing point.
