Water Droplet Ripple (2D)
Top-down 2D companion to the 3D water-droplet lab: falling droplets seed ring-shaped wave packets on a live height field, rendered with directional shading instead of a 3D mesh.
This 2D companion computes the same ring-shaped wave-packet physics as the 3D version — a droplet impact seeds a wavefront that expands outward at a fixed speed, wrapped in a Gaussian envelope that decays with distance from the wavefront and with time — but renders it from directly above as a shaded height field instead of a displaced 3D mesh. Four sliders control how often droplets fall, how tall the resulting ripples are, how fast they spread and fade, and the water's base tone, while a live readout panel tracks active ripples, falling droplets, peak surface height and elapsed time so the underlying wave mechanics stay visible rather than purely decorative.
Top-down 2D water-ripple simulator: each droplet impact seeds a ring-shaped wave packet (wavefront × Gaussian envelope × time decay) evaluated on a live height grid, shaded by its local gradient to fake directional lighting, with four real-time controls and a live readout panel.
