This simulator follows an insecticide from field application through to a fish at the top of a stream food chain. Choose a compound class — neonicotinoid, pyrethroid or organophosphate — set the application rate and a rainfall intensity, and watch particles wash off the field into a modelled stream, decaying by first-order kinetics along the way. Switch on a downstream granular-activated-carbon treatment zone to see how much load it strips out before the water reaches biota, and track live concentrations bioaccumulating up an algae → invertebrate → fish chain using standard bioconcentration factors.
