Pyrolysis is the chemical-recycling route used when contamination or mixed polymers make mechanical sorting and reprocessing impractical: waste plastic is heated in an oxygen-free rotary kiln until its polymer chains thermally crack into pyrolysis oil, permanent gas and a small char residue. This 2D simulator models the reactor as a real first-order Arrhenius decomposition — pick a feedstock (PE, PP or PS), set the kiln temperature, and watch sketched polymer chains tumble inside the drum's cross-section, fragmenting into shorter pieces and disappearing as the solid mass converts, while live readouts track the remaining solid fraction, the instantaneous rate constant and half-life, and a continuously-updated oil/gas/char mass balance that shifts toward more gas at higher cracking temperatures.
