District Heating Pipe Heat Loss
Interactive 3D model of heat leaking from a buried, insulated district-heating supply pipe: adjust insulation thickness, pipe length, flow rate and ground temperature and watch delivered temperature and total heat loss respond in real time.
Every district-heating network loses some of its heat to the ground along the way from plant to consumer. This simulation models a single buried, insulated supply pipe with the standard series-resistance heat-transfer model: an insulation layer and the surrounding soil in series, producing an exponential decay of water temperature with distance that depends on insulation thickness, pipe length, flow rate and ground temperature. Watch the pipe's colour and the flowing water parcels cool as they travel, and read off the delivered temperature, total heat lost to the ground, and the network's delivery efficiency in real time.
Trace how heat leaks from a buried, insulated district-heating supply pipe as hot water flows from the plant toward a consumer — adjust insulation thickness, pipe length, flow rate and ground temperature and watch the delivered temperature and total heat loss respond in real time.
