Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) is the piece of hardware that lets a Passivhaus or nZEB building swap its entire indoor air volume for fresh outdoor air continuously without paying to reheat it from scratch. This simulator renders the exchanger core as two counterflowing streams of air parcels — cold fresh air heading in, warm stale air heading out — that visibly warm and cool as they cross the core, driven by the same effectiveness equation real HRV units are rated on.
