🧪 Education Microlearning Simulation
Interactive 3D model of working-memory capacity during microlearning: watch chunked content stream into a limited-capacity buffer, get displaced when overloaded, or consolidate into long-term memory, based on Cowan's chunk-capacity model and Cognitive Load Theory.
Microlearning breaks content into short focused chunks — but why does that actually help retention? This simulator models the real cognitive bottleneck behind it: a working-memory buffer of limited capacity (Cowan's K ≈ 4±1 chunks), where each incoming chunk's activation decays exponentially unless refreshed by interleaved review, and chunks that accumulate enough exposure before decaying consolidate into long-term memory. Push the burst pace too fast or the chunk size too large and the buffer overloads, silently dropping the weakest item — exactly the overload microlearning's short bursts and spaced pacing are designed to avoid. Tune chunk size, buffer capacity, pace and review strength and watch the trade-off play out live in 3D.
This simulation demonstrates microlearning principles by presenting information in short, focused bursts. Users will likely complete individual learning modules to acquire specific knowledge.
