Earth Overshoot Day Simulator (2D)
Interactive 2D top-down Earth Overshoot Day simulator: tune six ecological-footprint categories against the planet's annual biocapacity budget and watch a 365-day calendar ring flip from green to red at Overshoot Day, with a pannable/zoomable ring view.
Earth Overshoot Day is the calendar date each year on which humanity's demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what the biosphere can regenerate in that year. This 2D top-down companion uses the exact same accounting as the 3D scene: six adjustable demand categories — carbon, cropland, grazing land, forest products, built-up land and fishing grounds — sum to a total "Earths demanded" figure, which sets where a 365-marker calendar ring flips from green (within budget) to red (ecological debt). Press play to sweep a marker around the ring in real time and watch a red debt halo grow around the central Earth disc once the sweep crosses Overshoot Day. Drag to pan the ring view and scroll to zoom.
Interactive 2D top-down companion to the 3D Earth Overshoot Day model: tune six ecological-footprint categories against Earth's annual biocapacity budget on a pannable/zoomable calendar ring that flips from green to red at Overshoot Day, when humanity starts drawing down natural capital for the rest of the year.
