Lichen Bioweathering 2D: Etch-Pit Cross-Section
2D cross-section companion to the 3D lichen bioweathering simulator: a stratigraphic side-view profile of mineral grains being etched by expanding lichen colonies, driven by the same Arrhenius-controlled chelation kinetics, with a live rate-law inset plot.
This is the 2D cross-section companion to the 3D lichen bioweathering simulator: the same chelation-driven mineral dissolution, computed independently as a side-view profile through the rock instead of a top-down grid. A row of feldspar grain columns is colonized by lichen canopy bands that widen at a lichenometric linear rate; wherever a canopy covers a column, oxalic-acid chelation carves it down following Arrhenius-controlled dissolution kinetics, exactly as in the 3D model. Live readouts track colonized length, mean pit depth and cumulative mineral mass lost, while a small inset plot draws the Arrhenius rate law itself so the effect of the temperature slider can be read directly off the curve.
