This simulator renders a 2D cross-section of a horizontal subsurface-flow constructed wetland bed as three coupled concentration fields — ammonium, nitrate and dissolved N2 gas — advecting from inlet to outlet and reacting wherever oxygen leaking radially from plant roots overlaps organic-carbon-rich anoxic gravel. Unlike a particle-tracking view, every cell of the bed nitrifies and denitrifies continuously according to real Monod saturation kinetics, so the visible field brightness directly reflects local reaction rate. Adjust radial oxygen loss, organic carbon availability, hydraulic loading and root density and watch the live ammonium-removal efficiency, effluent nitrate fraction and cumulative N2 gas release respond to the shifting balance between aerobic and anoxic zones.
