🧬 eDNA Water Sampling Simulator (2D)

A top-down 2D companion to the 3D pond scene: place an organism, watch the environmental DNA it sheds spread and decay as a Gaussian plume, then move a sampling probe anywhere and test whether the assay still catches it.

This 2D companion strips the 3D pond scene down to a top-down view built for reading the numbers rather than orbiting a camera: click the water to send an organism swimming through, and it leaves behind a spreading, fading disc of environmental DNA. Move the sampling probe to any point and moment and take a sample — the same decay-times-dilution formula as the 3D version decides whether the concentration there is still above the assay's threshold, so a negative result can mean the species was never there, or just that you sampled too late or too far away.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down eDNA plume model: concentration falls with e^(−k·t) decay and a Gaussian spatial term whose spread σ(t) grows with √t, sampled against a tunable detection threshold and sample volume.
