Permafrost Early Warning Simulator
Interactive permafrost thaw simulator: track the active layer deepening into frozen ground over a warming season, watch borehole temperature sensors trigger early-warning thresholds, and see methane release risk rise as waterlogged thaw pockets form.
Permafrost — ground frozen for at least two consecutive years — stays stable only as long as heat lost to the winter sky outpaces heat gained each summer. This simulator solves the seasonal heat-diffusion front on a depth profile of soil, showing the active layer deepen into frozen ground as surface warming, insulation and ground ice content interact. Three virtual boreholes at fixed depths flip into alert the moment their local temperature crosses 0°C, and a methane-risk readout tracks how much of the newly thawed, waterlogged soil is primed for anaerobic microbial decomposition — the greenhouse-gas feedback loop real permafrost monitoring networks exist to catch early.
Симуляція показує процес теплового розпространення в поросятній землі кожного сезону — летню нагрів, ізолацію снегом та мохом, а також зміни в містичному складі та глибини активного шару.
