3D permafrost cross-section simulator: watch the active layer thaw down through soil blocks, ice wedges collapse into thermokarst subsidence, and methane bubbles vent from waterlogged thaw ponds as ground temperature rises.
Where the 2D version reads permafrost thaw as a temperature chart, this cross-section renders it as physical ground: a grid of independent soil columns, each thawing downward at its own rate depending on the ice wedge packed beneath it. Once a column's ice wedge fully melts, the surface above it loses support and subsides — the same thermokarst collapse that pockmarks real thaw landscapes — and waterlogged, subsided columns vent rising methane bubbles as their organic matter decomposes anaerobically. Orbit the block to see how uneven the thaw front really is column-to-column, the same unevenness satellite radar surveys use to spot permafrost degradation from orbit before any single borehole trips its alarm.
