Microplastic River Interceptor Simulator

Interactive river interceptor simulator: microplastic particles drift downstream on a 3D current toward a filter screen, with flow velocity, particle size and mesh capture efficiency tunable in real time to see how Stokes-law drag governs capture rate.

River interceptors reduce microplastic pollution by pulling suspended fragments out of the current with a mesh screen anchored across the channel. This simulator visualises that process directly: particles spawn upstream and drift downstream on the flow, and as each one reaches the screen its fate is decided by a probability that blends the screen's own capture efficiency with Stokes' drag on the particle's radius. Adjust flow velocity, particle size and mesh capture efficiency to see how each changes the balance between fragments trapped at the barrier and fragments that slip through into the water below.
