Virtual Water Trade Network
Interactive 3D water-footprint simulator: watch the blue, green and grey water embedded in traded farm goods (beef, cotton, coffee, rice) flow between world regions, and see how export volume drives up a water-stressed region's Blue Water Scarcity Index.
Every tonne of beef, cotton, coffee or rice that crosses a border also carries an invisible cargo: the water used to grow and process it. This simulator renders a 3D network of six world regions and animates that "virtual water" as blue (irrigation), green (rainfall) and grey (pollution-dilution) droplets flowing from your chosen exporter to its trading partners. Pick a commodity and export volume and watch the live readouts — total water exported, the grey-water pollution share, and the exporting region's Blue Water Scarcity Index — respond in real time, showing why water-stressed regions exporting thirsty crops is a real sustainability concern, not an abstraction.
