Low-Carbon Mobility: Travel Footprint Race
Race five ways to reach the same destination — plane, petrol car, EV, bus and train — and watch each mode's cumulative CO2e footprint climb at its own real emission rate over the same distance.
Five vehicles set off across the same distance — a short-haul flight, a petrol car, an electric car, a local bus and a national train — each burning fuel or electricity at its own real-world rate. As they cover kilometres, a rising bar behind each one tracks its cumulative CO2-equivalent footprint using published average emission factors (grams of CO2e per passenger-kilometre), with the flight's figure further scaled by a radiative-forcing index to account for its extra high-altitude warming effect. Toggle modes on or off, set the trip distance and watch how far mode choice alone can spread the same journey's footprint — the exact calculation behind eco-tourism's push for low-carbon mobility.
