Shore power (cold ironing) replaces that onboard diesel with a plug into the local electricity grid, and this simulator makes the trade-off tangible: dial in a ship's hotel load, how long it stays docked, what fraction of that time is actually connected to shore power, and how clean the local grid is, then watch the stack's exhaust plume thin out and the shore-power cable pulse with current while live readouts track the instantaneous power draw, the CO₂ avoided for this visit, and the fuel cost saved. It's the same lever dozens of real ports — Los Angeles, Long Beach, Rotterdam, Shanghai — are pulling right now to cut dockside air pollution without touching a single ship engine.
