🧪 Climate Extreme Weather Simulation

Interactive 3D globe simulator: dial a global warming anomaly and see how it shifts the frequency and intensity of hurricanes, droughts, floods and polar cold snaps through Hadley/Ferrel/Polar circulation and sea-surface-temperature genesis thresholds.

This simulator observes extreme weather the way a climatologist does: as an emergent statistic of a rotating planet's circulation, not a single storm. A stylised Earth spins under an idealised Hadley/Ferrel/Polar circulation, its sea-surface temperature field driven by latitude, season and a global warming anomaly you control. Push the temperature slider and watch the physically-gated consequences ripple out — tropical cyclones spawn wherever the water crosses the real 26.5°C genesis threshold away from the equator, the subtropical dry belt widens and creeps poleward as the Hadley cell expands, mid-latitude storm-track rainfall intensifies at the textbook 7%-per-degree Clausius–Clapeyron rate, and polar cold-snaps fade as the poles warm. It is a demonstration of how a single knob — global mean temperature — reshapes the frequency, location and intensity of hurricanes, floods, droughts and blizzards across a landscape, grounded in the same circulation cells and thresholds meteorologists use to explain them.

⚙ Under the hood

This simulation allows users to observe and analyze various extreme weather phenomena, such as hurricanes and floods. It demonstrates the dynamics of atmospheric circulation and the impact of these events on landscapes.
