NDC Ratchet Wheel: 2D Pledge-Cycle Diagnostics
Interactive 2D companion to the NDC Ratchet Mechanism Simulator: a 12-spoke ratchet wheel tracks each negotiating bloc's monotonically-rising ambition and current emissions, a scrubbable history chart plots global emissions against the shrinking 1.5°C ceiling cycle by cycle, and a warming gauge reads out the cumulative-emissions climate response — the same equations as the 3D bar field, computed independently through genuinely 2D-native diagnostics.
The Paris Agreement doesn't set national emissions targets from above — it runs on a repeating 5-year loop of self-set pledges (Nationally Determined Contributions) that, by treaty design, can only ratchet upward in ambition, followed by a Global Stocktake that measures the gap between what's pledged and what a 1.5°C carbon budget actually requires. This 2D companion to the 3D bar-field simulator keeps the exact same ratchet, implementation-gap and TCRE warming equations, but computes and renders them independently through a 12-spoke ratchet wheel (ambition dots that can only move outward, overlaid with emissions wedges), a scrubbable emissions-vs-ceiling history chart you can drag through past cycles, and a dedicated warming gauge — diagnostics with no equivalent in the 3D version's rotating bar field.
Watch a 12-spoke ratchet wheel track each negotiating bloc's monotonically-rising ambition and current emissions, drag a scrubbable history chart to replay past 5-year pledge cycles against the shrinking 1.5°C ceiling, and read cumulative warming off a dedicated gauge — the same treaty equations as the 3D bar field, computed independently.
