Chlorinating drinking water does more than kill pathogens — it also reacts with the dissolved organic matter naturally present in raw water to form trihalomethanes (THMs), a regulated disinfection byproduct. This simulator models a treatment reactor in 3D: adjust the chlorine dose, DOC concentration, bromide level and water temperature and watch, in real time, the free-chlorine residual decay, DOC precursor particles convert into THM molecules, and the CT disinfection credit accumulate — with a live readout of total THMs against the EPA's 80 µg/L regulatory limit.
