🧪 Column Chromatography Separator (2D)
A 2D column view of chromatographic separation: tune solvent polarity, flow rate, column temperature and stationary-phase packing, and watch four plant-pigment bands travel down the packed bed and drip into collection tubes at different speeds, based on each compound's partition coefficient.
What It Demonstrates
The same partition-coefficient chemistry as the 3D version, read from a flat column diagram: four plant pigments loaded at the top of a packed bed travel down at different speeds depending on how strongly each favours the stationary packing versus the moving solvent, emerging as separate bands that drip into collection tubes in a new order.
How to Use
Drag the solvent polarity, flow rate and column temperature sliders and switch the stationary phase between silica and C18 packing to change how fast each band elutes. Watch the eluted count, leading band and run time respond live, and use Reload sample or Pause to restart or freeze the run.
A packed-column cross-section driven by the same "like dissolves like" partition-coefficient formula as the 3D original — each pigment's retention factor comes from how closely its own polarity matches the stationary phase versus the mobile solvent — plus a temperature term that scales transit speed and band broadening.
