🐦 Starling Murmuration: Topological Neighbours, Scale-Free Correlations and Predator Waves
A Blender-modelled flock of up to 24,000 instanced starlings compares the topological rule (k nearest neighbours, as measured by Ballerini et al. 2008) with a fixed-radius metric rule, and measures polarisation, flock shape, the velocity correlation function with its correlation length, turn waves and a falcon-triggered agitation wave. Unlike basic boids pages, it is about the neighbour rule itself and about field-study observables, each checked against exact answers in the page.
