Biotechnology harnesses living cells — bacteria, yeast, fungi — as microscopic factories that turn cheap feedstock into medicines, fuels and food ingredients. This simulator visualizes a single stirred-tank fermentation batch: cells multiply inside the tank, an impeller keeps them mixed and aerated, and a gas stream carries oxygen in while the culture converts substrate into biomass and a target product. Adjust the maximum growth rate, the amount of substrate loaded at the start, and the stirrer speed to see how each shapes the growth curve, how quickly the batch exhausts its feedstock, and how much product accumulates before the run ends.
