Muscle Satellite Cell Activation (2D)
Interactive 2D model of adult muscle stem cells (satellite cells): the cylindrical myofiber surface is unrolled into a flat strip so you can watch quiescent Pax7+ cells activate after injury, proliferate, and either self-renew the stem pool or differentiate and fuse to repair the fiber. Pan and zoom the strip, tune injury severity, signal strength and the self-renewal probability.
Adult skeletal muscle carries its own dedicated stem cell: the satellite cell, a quiescent Pax7-expressing cell wedged between a muscle fiber and its basal lamina. This 2D simulator unrolls the cylindrical myofiber surface into a flat strip seeded with a resting satellite-cell pool and lets you trigger an injury: nearby quiescent cells activate under a decaying HGF/c-Met signal, express MyoD, and proliferate as transient myoblasts. A tunable self-renewal probability then governs each division's fate — return to the quiescent reserve, or commit and fuse into the fiber to repair the damage — with live population counts and a repair-progress readout tracking the stochastic population dynamics in real time. Drag to pan the strip and scroll to zoom in on any region.
